CT Body Screening

What is a Body CT Screening?
A body CT Screening scans your lungs, abdomen, pelvis, and other critical organs; this screening can detect cancer, tumors, bone disease and other abnormalities. A CT body screening is not intended for individuals with cancer or a history of cancer. Patients do not need a physician’s prescription to obtain this exam, but will need to provide a doctor’s name for the facsimile of the report. Although no contrast is necessary, it is recommended that oral contrast be considered for a more complete examination. Typically insurance does not cover these types of exams.

What Can I Expect?

Exam Preparation

  • CT Screening of the Chest requires no preparation.
  • CT Screening of the Abdomen & Pelvis oral contrast is recommended, but not necessary. Although oral contrast is not required, it is recommended. If you choose to drink the oral contrast, we would recommend no eating 4 hours before the exam.

During the Exam

  • Any metal that is within the area to be scanned will need to be removed.
  • During the scan your arms will be brought above your head.
  • You will be asked to hold your breath for 5-10 seconds while the images are being taken.
  • Exam should be completed within 10 minutes.

After the Exam

  • If oral contrast was taken you can expect a soft stool or possibly diarrhea.
  • Report will be forwarded to your doctor within 24 to 48 hours.
